It took no more than two days for me to feel really comfortable and at home in Porto Ageranos. There are not many places where I ever felt better.
As to latitude, you could not get further south anywhere in Europe. That is why “the planet” burns on us and it is really hot. Our tent is directly next to a wonderful bay. And there is always a pleasantly fresh breeze providing a little cooling.
The meals “Chez Maria” are simple but honest. Tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and grapes are not the only things that still taste like they should. The same is true for the local meat and fish.

The nights are nice and cool. Between us and the mediterranean night with its sparkling starry sky, there is only the fabric the tent is made of.
Although the moon is in its waning phase, it still shows us our way with its silver light. And in the morning, the sun will rise again and spread its warm light all over the constantly empty beach.
But there are other reasons too why I like it so much here.
To be sure, they built a new hotel complex on the hill opposite. And you also see some newly constructed buildings. But they fit in quite well with the landscape and stand in harmony with the old buildings that shape the entire scenery. And, regardless of this growth, I see less and less motor boats, water scooters (how do you call those “motorbikes of the ocean”?) and water skiers each year. Basically, I think this is good news.
The simple campground is rather empty. Most of the guests are Greek citizens. You hardly ever see a German number plate on a car. The people are friendly. And everything is quiet. The people here enjoy the simple lifestyle, the peace, nature and the ocean.
In other words: bike tours, swimming, eating well, being at leisure – and being content with everything you have. Let us keep it that way!
