UTB #51 – A Day in Copenhagen

kopenhagenYesterday evening, the sun appeared for a few hours, after all. Sunset is a little earlier around here. We are going east, so the sun’s good-bye is a soft one on the stern. And we have a wonderfully long night ahead of us, because arrival time in Copenhagen is as late as 10 a.m.!

Incidentally, on arrival in Copenhagen, the sun is again shining all around the place. It is 3 p.m. before the first dark clouds and the first raindrops make their appearance.

By that time, however, a four-hour stroll through Copenhagen is behind us. First, we went through the pedestrians’ zones in the old part of the city, and then we went to see the mermaid. We took an excursion boat from the mermaid to the Amalien-harbour and did a tour of the castle Amalienburg.

For us visitors, Copenhagen is a dream of a city. There are beautiful buildings, and there is much life on the canals and at the shores. Copenhagen seems to be the world’s general meeting place.

kopenhagenbierAt noon, we took a break and went for a beer. The beer, too, tastes excellent in Copenhagen. However, I also reached a new personal price record. The 4.50 Euros I paid at Dürnbräu in Munich (near Tal) have been beaten by what equals 4.90 Euros in Danish Crowns for half a litre.

Tonight, we will sail under the bridge of the Great Belt (Storebælt). The exact time of passage will be announced later today. I intend to be there to see it at all events. Tomorrow morning at 7 a.m., we will reach Kiel.

We plan to get the train to Hamburg at 8.21 a.m. – which might just leave enough time for a last breakfast on board. We would then be at home around 6 p.m. tonight.

We enjoyed wonderful days. The phantastic team of TUI-cruises did a good job on MeinSchiff against difficult odds. They always remained extremely friendly and cordial, no matter what, and I want to thank them very much!

I do look forward to the commencement of “normal life” in Munich – just as I also look forward to my next vacation, which, however, will again be one with bikes and tent. I hope that a few more members of my family, apart from Barbara, will join us.
This is where I close my travel journal.
