Another 21 nights to go!
Again, the quiet time has arrived. So what you need is presents. Here is a recommendation of mine. Particularly for my friends!
It is a thick package containing eight DVDs. Each of them has four sequences: the series “Löwengrube“! Taking the family Grandauer as an example, we are led through the years between 1897 and 1954. The main character is played by Jörg Hube, whom I personally love and adore very much. Unfortunately, he died not too long ago.
This series is something very special. It is the opposite of soap. In it, the time between the change of the centuries and the end of WW-II is reflected. The actors are extremely good actors (not to mention that they are extremely famous). It is done in a very courageous way, thus being a highlight of Bavarian TV history. It was recorded between 1989 and 1992.
I find it just great. It is the best, most enertaining, but also most emotional history lesson about the first half of the 20th century imaginable. A series that can be categorized as cult, both entertaining and informative for your children and grandchildren.
After an excellent start, the series gets better with each episode. You can feel how the huge team of actors totally immerse themselves in the characters they play. And while the first few episodes are high-quality entertainment, what follows later gets more and more under your skin!
Basically, it is the film version of a radio play series published by the BR. In the audio drama, Karl Obermayer spoke the main character. Since he had died before the film was made, the main character of Benno Grandauer was re-named Karl.
In the series, there are quite interesting things to be discovered apart from the story itself. For instance, I re-discovered the wonderful lake Pfleger near Garmisch.
So here is my wish for you: perhaps you will find time once in a while during these long nights for a comfortable cinematic evening. Maybe with a good Bavarian beer or one of your excellent wines.
