I find a big advert stand full of „Süddeutsche“ newspaper copies of today. Two young and rather beautiful women are looking for new customers. So I think: an SZ would not be a bad idea, would it? It is a chance for me to make good use of my newly won (or newly lost) time. In my usual brusque way, I ask the nice ladies for a copy.
Well, it seems like I am out of luck today. You will only get a free copy of the SZ if you agree to have the SZ delivered to an address of yours – of course, just for trying and totally without making a commitment. I offer to just take a copy and forego the two weeks of free delivery. After all, I already have a subscription and I do not need two copies in my post box each morning.
The answer is NO! I will not get a “Süddeutsche”. I ask the reason. The answer is simple: it is a special offer for those who want to try if they might like it – and, already being a subscriber, I cannot qualify..
Well, that is how it is. They do everything for the new customers. After all, the subscribers are already yesterday’s news.
As soon as all my children will have left home, I am no longer a subscriber! Then I will take good advantage of all those offers when they look for new customers.
