The result of Copenhagen is a disaster. Christoph Lütgert calls the USA an ecological villain and the industrial nations the axes of evil. Politics have failed miserably. When it comes to protecting our climate, we, too, are a total failure every day. Our children and grandchildren will curse us.

ersonally, I want to introduce another position.
In Copenhagen, we saw a summit that was wonderfully communicated. The parties concerned talked intensely about our planet as an entity. This overview-effect is something totally new in politics. Just remember the time when we had to opposing systems, or an empire, or made all those discoveries – all these times were characterized by a pathetic concept of territories and borders.
Now in Copenhagen, the awareness of every participant was totally different. To be sure, it was characterized at equal parts by individual interests and the Gaia concept. As I see it, politics delivered as best it could. It gave voice to individual interests and provided the biggest ever arena for some geo-awareness.
Even 30 years ago, if you thought of promoting the interest of an ecological business system, despair was all you could hope for. The physical effects were well-known, but there were no marketable products. During the time, the engineers at MAN made a huge impression on me. They came up with new technologies like the GROWIAN, the SolarMAN and the BHKWs, but were ahead of their time and consequently doomed to failure.
Herr Lütgert, today, everything looks a lot more promising. We have no reason to despair, let alone to just twiddle our thumbs. Much needs to be done if we want to equip our children and grandchildren with sufficient knowledge and sensitivity to work successfully, instead of reverting to old-testament rituals.
